GPs
Rejecting Unnecessary Forms and Proformas
The BMA have produced guidance on rejecting unnecessary forms and proformas which create additional workload, delayed patient care, and unnecessary bureaucracy for GP practices - when a relevant, factual referral letter would suffice.
Principles for Shared Care Prescribing
Shared care prescribing refers to medication which is initiated by a specialist and ongoing prescribing and monitoring is shared with a GP practice, usually accompanied by guidance or a shared care agreement. The BMA have published a statement of shared care prescribing principles which can be viewed here.

Update: Local Enhanced Services (LES) Training Offer
HNY ICB have shared the following information:

"As we move forward with the training provision, for those practices that have signed up to Local Enhanced Services and indicated a need for support during the sign-up process, The Training Hub will be reaching out to practices from their email address hnyicb.traininghub@nhs.net to signpost and to seek further detail. You can find more information on the Humber and North Yorkshire Primary Care Workforce Training Hub website Local Enhanced Services (LES) Training - Training Hub or the dedicated Humber and North Yorkshire Enhanced Services Review - FutureNHS Collaboration Platform.

Following the successful sign-up of GP practices across Humber and North Yorkshire for Local Enhanced Services (LES), we are committed to ensuring a robust and supportive training offer for all participating healthcare professionals. We are working closely with the primary care workforce training hub and colleagues across the system to facilitate the delivery of this training and will provide further updates as the provision increases.

FOR ALL STAFF
AI in General Practice
GPC England have published a brief guidance note on the use of AI in general practice. They urge caution due to risks around accuracy of AI tools, clarity on where data is held, and potential data governance risks for GPs. This has now been followed by a more detailed document Guidance on the use of AI-enabled ambient scribing products in health and care settings.
GP Connect and e-consult Contract Changes
Following the agreement of the 2025/26 GMS contract, a new requirement will come into place in October 2025 mandating practices to provide some external parties with the ability to submit information to the GP record and, in some limited cases, access information within the record. While much of the detail of this requirement is still to be determined, the BMA have produced an FAQs document on some of the more pressing questions.

Similarly, the scope of e-consult platforms is expected to expand as patients will have a wider range of ways to access and engage with GP services. A set of  FAQs on that change can be found here.
