When Shadows Fall has had a pretty adventurous first month. There have been ups and downs of every kind, from being an Amazon #1 Best Seller in Young Adult Fantasy Adventure to misprints and damaged author copies. My emotions have been on a roller coaster, but it has been a very rewarding experience!
Overall, the book has done fairly well. It sold to far more people in my community than I expected, but did not do as well in other markets as I had hoped. Sales were slowing down by the end of the month, so it may take some time to gain long-term traction!
Now that When Shadows Fall is finally released, you may be wondering what's next for my writing career. Although I'll need to continue marketing the first book, I plan to turn my attention to the sequels as my main priority. I don't have a release day set for book two, but I hope to have a better idea of how long it will take by the end of the year.

My month has been pretty consumed with the release of When Shadows Fall. There was always lots to do, and plenty that I probably should have done and didn't get around to. The issue with the misprint and the damaged author copies ate up a lot of time, so I didn't accomplish as much as I would have liked!
A lot of my time went into promoting on social media, creating graphics and promos for the book, hanging up posters, making business cards, etc.
In addition to that, I've been doing a beta-read for a fellow author. My fellow writers helped so much with beta-reading and giving feedback on When Shadows Fall, and it is important to me to give back to the writing community. Beta-reading is a great way to do this while also helping hone my skills as a writer!

Now that summer is here, I plan to focus most of my energy on the sequels. July is going to be a busy month, as I will be gone for a week at the beginning and end of the month, plus spending lots of time with my family. However, I still hope to make some progress on the third book in the series!
I plan to finish my first draft before the end of summer, and use what I learn from writing it to help me start revising book two. Additionally, I'd like to make When Shadows Fall available in various local book stores and libraries, and potentially arrange some local book signings.

Those of you who have been around for a while may be wondering what will happen with this section of the newsletter now that the "Writing Journey" is complete. For now, nothing. The months leading up to When Shadows Fall's release have been very busy, and while I've enjoyed writing these segments, they are time-consuming!
Down the line, I may start a new series here (possibly exploring the self-publishing process) or may include stand alone segments that further explore the writing process. For now though, I'm looking forward to taking a break!

It's been another busy month, so sadly I didn't have time to add any new designs to my Redbubble store. However, I did offer to make personalized drawings for the students I worked with this year. There are 50 kids between the two classrooms I was in, and almost all of them wanted a drawing! They love watching me draw, and got so excited to see a picture of themselves. It took a very long time but it was a lot of fun, and a good drawing exercise!I've cut off the name, but here's an example of one of the drawings I did. 🙂

Reading: I'm over half way through "The Shadow of What Was Lost" and enjoying it a lot. I also finally caved and bought my first Kindle, so I've been trying some indie eBooks as well!
