Dear Cure Mito Community,
As the holiday season comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on our shared journey. It is with both gratitude and excitement that I reach out to you today. I am honored to announce my new role as Executive Director of the Cure Mito Foundation, a commitment that resonates deeply with my heart and soul.
Since my son Will was diagnosed with Leigh syndrome in 2014, my family's path has been intertwined with this community of remarkable individuals and families. In those early days, the landscape was daunting - there were few resources, little support, and a profound sense of isolation. But together, with your support, we have created a vibrant community that is making a difference and bringing hope to many.
I am equally excited to announce that Sophia Zilber will be taking on the position of Vice President. Sophia's dedication to honoring her late daughter, Miriam, is truly remarkable. Having collaborated with her for more than three years, I have seen her exceptional commitment and relentless work ethic firsthand. Her outstanding organizational and data management skills have been instrumental in advancing our mission and motivating others to join our efforts.
Looking forward to 2025, our commitment to advancing research, improving patient care, and raising awareness remains strong. We will continue building partnerships, developing knowledge-sharing initiatives, and hosting community events that uplift and empower us all.
As parents and caregivers of children affected by Leigh syndrome and other mitochondrial diseases, we hold the responsibility - and the privilege - of driving change and progress for our children and for future generations.
I invite you to stay actively engaged with us. Whether by donating, opening a fund in honor of your loved one, volunteering your time, or simply following us on social media, each action brings us closer to achieving our shared goals. In January, I will be offering dedicated times to connect with you about how the Cure Mito Foundation can support your family and how you can be involved.
Wishing you and your families a joyful holiday season and a new year filled with hope, health, and happiness.
With warmth and gratitude,
Kasey Woleben
