What else is happening
Register now for fall soccer. Some divisions have waiting lists -- fill out the forms now, and the coach staff will do their best to get everyone onto a team.
Want to get a head start on the fall soccer league? We're working with the Community Center of La Canada Flintridge to hold Summer Soccer Launch Party for 6U-12U kids the week of July 29. Every afternoon that week, partygoers will get professional soccer training and play fun games (including soccer). Sign up now!
The B6, B7, B8, and B10 divisions particularly need more coaches and referees. Learn about what's involved.
The clubhouse is getting new carpet! Maybe the way you want to contribute to AYSO this summer is ... by moving furniture? Sent a note to info@ayso13.org.
This is the last chance to get discounted tickets to join Region 13 at the LAFC-Galaxy match on July 4 at the Rose Bowl. It was a lot of fun last year to watch LA's two MLS teams play in America's Stadium, on Independence Day. Please place your order by lunchtime Tuesday, as tickets will be distributed shortly thereafter.
Region 13 recognizes Jacob Clewans as Athlete of the Year for the 2023-24 season. Jacob played in last year's fall soccer league with the Gray Panthers in B10U, and then tried out for All-Stars and landed on the Area team. Pasadena's Area team fought through a tightly contested field to earn a spot in the playoffs. Narrowly besting #1 ranked South Pasadena in the semifinals, they charged onward to decisively triumph over Glendale in the final match. What he really did to stand out is, after the All-Star season ended, Jacob became the cornerstone of an expanded squad that represented Region 13 in twelve tournaments. Starting with the Hi-5 in January, and ending with the Leo Nedeff Memorial Tournament in Glendale in June, we can't remember anyone who has been so persistent and enthusiastic to play in that many tournament matches. Jacob stands out as a team leader with a relentlessly positive attitude, anchors the team as a goalkeeper, and excels on the field with his ball control skills. Congratulations, Jacob!
This brings to mind two well-worn aphorisms, "much of success is showing up," and "if you want to get good at something, do it a lot!"
If you'd like to play even more soccer in 2024-25, Region 13 plans to offer additional opportunities for anyone who brings enthusiasm and a positive attitude, from all-ages pickup games to tournament teams. To make sure you're invited, check the "I am also interested in ..." box on your registration form.
See more by subscribing to the Region 13 calendar. The board meeting is usually the first Thursday of each month.

Hungry? Hangry? Too hot? Order pizza, salad, or chicken bites through ayso13.org/pizza and pick it up at Green St & Madison Ave in Pasadena. A portion of each sale is donated to Region 13. Get a cauliflower crust for $1 more and feel better about it.
What happens between now and when the soccer league starts? Quite a lot!
Some divisions have waiting lists already. If your child is in one of these, the division administrators will be asking you to make time to help out with for your child's team. Each team needs 2 coaches, 2 referees, and a manager, because it's expected that some volunteers will need to miss a few weeks.
You can start taking the online classes and, if this is your first time, do your livescan fingerprinting over the summer. There will be in-person classes for coaches and referees in July and August, and parent orientation meetings in late August. Expect a class to be offered about every week in August, and even a few in September. You can take the class in any AYSO region - sign up through eTrainU.
If you've applied to volunteer, you can also use the summer to unlock your inner Ted Lasso!
