Our newsletters are long! To make them easier to skim, here's what you'll find below:
|
Hi <<First Name>>, Welcome to this month's newsletter! We hope the updates here help you to connect with the local community, discover opportunities, explore resources in the broader community, and find ways to engage more deeply in community-related activities.Whether you're interested in establishing connections with organizations you encounter in person, engaging in conversations with individuals you meet at our various events, or even subscribing to online platforms related to the organizations mentioned in our News and Updates section, we're here to support you in building a diverse array of meaningful relationships within our community. While it's impossible to cover all the community opportunities in this email, we're confident that you'll organically uncover more ways to connect as you continue to explore. In fact, I highly recommend considering participation in one or more of our rapidly evolving sub-communities, where you'll have the chance to engage with a wide range of people and groups dedicated to making positive changes.
As we gear up for the upcoming EAGxNYC conference this weekend, our organizing team will be slightly busier than usual. However, we want to emphasize that we're still here to assist you. Don't hesitate to reach out via Slack or email if you need any help or have questions. In particular, our Community Health Coordinator, Megan, can be contacted to address any inquiries regarding interpersonal interactions within the EA community. In any case, thanks for reading, and let us know if we could be of any assistance! Your active participation strengthens the connections that make our community thrive, and we appreciate you!

In Case You Missed ItEAGxNYC is this weekend! We're looking forward to the big event. Please reach out to Alex and/or Rocky over our Slack if there's anything we could help you with to best prepare for the event! Announcing New EA NYC Volunteer Positions Effective Altruism NYC is seeking several excited volunteers to help us run our expansive programming! We’ve recently revamped our volunteer process, and can flexibly accommodate a range of different interests and availabilities among the following teams:- Venue Search/Support Team - for help finding venues and/or hosting private events
- Welcoming Committee - for welcoming new members to the community
- Events Teams - for coordinating and/or facilitating the following kinds of events
- Speaker Events Team
- Discussion Events Team
- Reading Group Events Team
- Community Social Events Team
- Subgroup Events Teams - much like the Venue, Welcoming, and Events Teams, we are seeking volunteers to help us with hosting, coordinating, and running a variety of events for each of our growing number (12+) of subgroups!
If you’re interested or know someone who might be, please refer to our expression of interest form and/or reach out to Alex! There are a wide range of options, and we’d be happy to help you find the opportunity that works for you! Help us improve the EA NYC organization! The Centre for Effective Altruism has recently built a ~10-minute survey that helps give both them and (if you consent to share) Effective Altruism NYC a signal on how impactful our group is, and how we might increase that impact.
Additionally, if you’re looking for employment opportunities within EA cause areas, you can consent to have your information shared with employers in CEA's network.
The survey should take about 10 minutes, and we'd appreciate it if you could complete it by the end of this week using this link. Your insights are crucial - thanks in advance for your time!ConferencesApplications OpenWe thought you might be interested in EAG Boston (October 27-29), EAGxVirtual 2023 (November 17-19), and these other EA Conferences. If you’re considering applying but unsure if the conferences are right for you or if you have other questions, Rocky and Alex are happy to chat by video or over email .You may also be interested in the Good Food Conference (September 18-20)!
