Fall soccer league

Register now for fall soccerThanks to donations from many families and sponsors, especially the Capital Group and the LA84 foundation, the price will be the same as last year.

When you register, you'll also choose a volunteer role and then start your background checks. You'll take classes to coach or referee over the summer, and then soccer starts after Labor Day.

The first coach classes will be on June 24, and then again in late July and August.

Soccer starts in July for 16U and 19U, and after Labor Day for everyone else.

There may be a waiting list, and children of coaches and referees will have priority. The 16U and 19U programs will probably fill up in the first week of May.

Players are assigned teams on a first-come, first served basis, and the number of teams will depend on how many parents volunteer to coach and referee. If you are the head coach for more than one team, the games will be scheduled as conveniently as possible.

Volunteer

Instead of coaching or refereeing for a team, you can choose one of the 70 or so “back office” positions, including these

Please write to Terry, rc@ayso13.org, with how you will help this year.

Open Registration

One of AYSO's core philosophies is that anybody can register to play soccer in any AYSO region. No matter where you work or live, all that's required are interest and enthusiasm. You may register in any AYSO region. Region 13 practices and plays on fields in Pasadena and La Cañada.

Everyone Plays

Region 13 provides every player with a jersey, shorts, and socks, made right here in LA County. All you have to buy are shinguards and shoes (if you want them). The registration form will ask you what uniform size your child wears. Just give your best guess, as we use this information to predict the sizes of uniforms to order for next year.

Sometimes, there are leftovers. Our friends in Region 1031 (South LA) sent uniforms and equipment to Cameroon and Ethiopia. Here are some pictures from the latest Chewa Sefer Tournament, sponsored by EYSO, the Ethiopian Youth Soccer Organization.

This just one example of the behind-the-scenes activities that AYSO does to introduce children to the joys of sport. Please consider getting involved on the board, and make an impact.

Message from the commissioner

Dear Soccer Families,

Quite a while ago when I was little (and before the pervasiveness of screens), my friends and I would often get together and play pick-up games. Sometimes it was soccer, sometimes hockey or basketball. And I think that we got good at these sports just because we played so much; we tried to school each other with the fancy moves that we saw on TV.

With Region 13's soccer program being the size it is, fall teams practice and play one game weekly. Some players are happy with this amount of soccer, and choose to do other extracurricular activities. Other players can't get enough soccer and want to play more.

While the Core fall program is Region 13's main focus, we also want to provide more opportunities for those who do want to play more. We already offer the All Stars, Winter Stars, and Spring programs throughout the year.

In the fall, we are working on one or more experimental programs that will let kids play more soccer, if they want to, in addition to the Core Program. It's still too early to announce specifics, but one focus will be enabling kids to play together with other players not on their fall team - maybe with their friends or previous teammates - and get more touches on the ball. As with all AYSO programs, we'll need volunteers to make this work, so please volunteer to coach or referee today!

See you on the field!
