Twelve Angry Men. Not a description of Tory cabinet members after another painful by-election loss, but the title of the play currently getting rave reviews at The Grand Theatre. That’s just one of the brilliant things on offer over the bank holiday weekend.
Ferny House has a packed weekend with a party designed for women with ADHD on Saturday and one on Sunday for those of us who still like a boogie but want to be in Bed By Eleven.
Also on Sunday, over at Shickers Tavern, Bandulu is the town’s first event dedicated to roots, dub, reggae and dancehall with free entry all afternoon. And
Áine Deane, the bedroom produced pop sensation, invites us to Get Loud in Central Library with support from our very own Daisy Atikinson.
From Monday we celebrate Polish Heritage Week over at Tea Amantes. A weeklong exhibition will be devoted to Polish-English friendship and the significant role played by Polish soldiers during World War II. A special menu will include traditional delicacies such as dumplings and borscht, oh my!
Queer Amusements hosts its second event next week with Creating From The Self, a talk on autobiographical work and making art from your own experience by award-winning writer and theatre maker Travis Alabanza. Last week over on Blackpool Social Club Jane Claire Bradley introduced herself as
the writer in residence for the multi-artform festival and I particularly enjoyed her description of ‘daemonic creativity’.
Also on Blackpool Social Club this week, nature writer Stephen Dunstan delivered his
May Almanac – marking 12 months of these instalments that walk us through what to expect from the natural world on the Fylde Coast.
I feel like I’m finally coming out of hibernation and there are loads of events to encourage us to get out in nature in the next few days. Garstang Walking Festival runs 4-12 May, Ridgeway Farm offers Spring family fun and a Stickman Trail all month, there’s a Fylde Sand Dunes guided walk on Sunday 5th and the same day Park View 4U begins weekly Park Yoga sessions. I’m definitely ready to practice something other than the corpse pose. Namaste!
