Viking Feast Shaping Up for Fun and Great Food

Per tradition, food follows a great day skiing. It starts with the famous Birkie Sausage at the festival tent and continues at the Agora Centre in the evening. This year, there is a strong Scandinavian focus. It will start with the Valhalla Junior Scandinavian Folk Dancers and will be followed through out the evening with Janina Carlstad and John Fletcher, Scandinavian Musicians. The Dancers begin their training at about age five and range up until young adulthood. They have performed at numerous folk festivals and will open the evening, immediately after the traditional toast at 7pm.

Supper will follow because skiers are hungry. While eating, Feast attendees can enjoy a visual display of the day as well as play the ‘Reverse Treasure Hunt’ game. More details will be emailed to attendees on how the game is a chance for attendees to tell their own stories (Birkie or otherwise) and win prizes in doing so!

Awards are central to the Viking Feast . This includes the coveted Haakon Haakonsson mug. These are individuals who have skied all three of the Birkebeiners and this year we have a bumper crop of recipients. Each mini-award ceremony will be opened with a performance by Janina Carlstad and John Fletcher through their Swans of Winter Project.

Janina and John host a Scandinavian‑inspired music performance series that invites audiences to experience the soundscape of early Nordic history, from the Bronze Age through the Viking Age, and beyond. It showcases rare and ancient instruments. The project blends performance, storytelling, and cultural education to connect audiences with Scandinavian heritage. As a special treat, a few attendees will be invited to participate in an impromptu band. Keep an eye out for an invitation for this unique experience.

The ceremonies and activities will be completed before 9pm but the bar stays open until 10pm. The bar is run by a great friend of the Birkie Bent Stick Brewing.
