Hi <<First Name>>,
I'm excited to share some updates regarding our community programming this month! In brief, we're showcasing even more unique opportunities for professional networking, conferences, volunteering, and connecting with like-minded peers! Despite the many (often productive) disagreements on the EA Forum, I'm glad to witness the lively connections made in our broad, local community. Whether you're new to the community or a longtime member, we invite you to explore all that we have to offer and become an active part of our vibrant network. That said, we want to hear from you; please have a low-bar for reaching out to our team! We welcome ideas and feedback on anything from community health to new initiatives, and our team is here as an EA resource to you!

Special announcementsThe EA NYC Annual Picnic: 10th Birthday Edition - May 13thHelp us celebrate EA NYC's 10th anniversary! Following the success of our ~150-person Saturday picnic in October of 2021, we'll host a similar gathering again this May. We expect the event to be filled with food, games, and laid-back networking. Our venue will be small (but wonderful), so attendance will be capped similarly again. Find out more and apply on our website. And see below for volunteer opportunities at the event! Volunteer OpportunitiesWe have several opportunities for volunteers, both for one-time events and for ongoing roles.Event volunteers needed: Many hands make light work! We’re planning a large-scale event in the coming months, and we need volunteers to help things run smoothly. You’ll have the chance to be part of an all-star team and participate “behind the scenes” in our programming. We will train you and make sure you have the support you need to have a great volunteering experience! - The EA NYC Annual Picnic (May 13) - needs include: logistics, welcoming parties, registration, food service, discussion facilitation, and more. If you'd like to volunteer at the picnic, please indicate your interest in your application to attend, and we will follow up with you!
- Subgroups - EA NYC has now launched or is in the process of launching the following subgroups:
- Venues - EA NYC is doing broader programming and planning events more often! We could always benefit from reliable venues to host a range of different activities (anything from board games to formal presentations). Know somewhere quiet, affordable, accessible, vegan (in case of restaurant), and accommodating of large groups? Let us know!
In the EA NYC CommunityCommunity Health ResourcesFollowing cases of severe misconduct in the global EA community, EA NYC would like to emphasize that there are people you can talk to about issues in the community. We do not want anyone to be alone in dealing with misbehavior within EA. If you are unsure if your experience warrants intervention, we encourage you to err on the side of reaching out. If you would like to report the incident, you have options: - EA NYC's local Community Health Coordinator, Megan, is available as a(n exceptionally friendly) point of contact for our community, and is available to contact anonymously.
- If you prefer to speak with Rocky and/or Alex, they are also available to chat with over email or by setting up a call.
- You may also reach out to the Center for Effective Altruism's Community Health team for further assistance through their online form.
We invite everyone to help the EA community improve. If you witness any concerning behavior, please let an organizer know and/or bring it to our attention through the methods above. We all have a part to play in creating a safe, welcoming community. Upcoming Subgroup MeetupsIn the Global EA CommunityApplications Open for EA Global LondonApplications are open for EAG London (May 19-21) and EAG Boston (October 27-29)!
