Soccer starts this week
After months of meetings, trainings, scheduling, and planning, soccer kicks off this week!
Practice starts today, September 3. Thank you to each and every volunteer. If this is your first time stepping up to coach or ref, or if you’ve lost track of how long you’ve been doing this, please remember that soccer happens because of you!

Mandatory Referee meeting for 10U - 14U
You can still take classes! Sign up in eTrainU
If you have the first game of the day at Victory Park, designate 2 team volunteers on this form to go 45 minutes before the game start to help set up. Thanks to Field Marshal Steve Masuta for coordinating Victory Park setup this year.
Team managers, sign up for a slot as a Victory Park Field Host or Picture Day Volunteer. There are almost as many time slots as there are teams, so a volunteer can usually be there to reunite lost parents with their children. Field Hosts must have completed a background check.
Arrange a team trip to the LA Galaxy for AYSO Night on September 21! Yes, there's enough time to go there straight from the final game of the day. Order tickets through ayso13.org/tickets. They're opening the grassy hill for us, and you can get a special ticket to let you bring a puppy. That's right -- dogs can watch this particular game.
Pro tip: the grassy hill has its own bar, at the top of the hill, behind the scoreboard.
We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude. Remember that everyone you meet is a neighbor, classmate, and fellow parent. Help us all eagerly look forward to doing it again next week.
See more by subscribing to the Region 13 calendar. The board meeting is usually the first Thursday of each month.

Dear <<First Name>>,
I hope you had a great Labor Day and are settling back into things as school gets back into session.
The start of the season is this Saturday, Sept 7 and we are busy in our final preparations for our Fall soccer league.
Like you, we’ve been watching the weather report and the current forecast is that it will be very hot this weekend. In previous years, Region 13 would play even in 100 degree temperatures.
However, in the last few years, there has been recognition that we (i.e., sports organizations) need better guidelines for playing in hot conditions. Safe, fair, and fun is central to AYSO and safe comes before anything else.
A few sister AYSO Regions have developed heat policies based on the Heat Index. However, US Soccer and very recently the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF; i.e., high school sports) have adopted heat guidelines based on the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) to determine if sporting events should take place or not.
This summer, Region 13 developed a heat policy, which will likely be implemented this weekend. WBGT temperature above 86.2° means that AYSO games and practices will be cancelled, with lower temperatures resulting in adjustments to our events. The current forecast indicates that it will likely be too hot to play starting around 10 or 11 AM on Saturday and lasting until 5 or 6 PM, meaning that most or all games could be cancelled.
In general, Region 13’s practice on game cancellation due to weather is to wait until closer to the event to allow the forecast to firm up. Therefore, we will continue to monitor the weather forecasts and update you later this week (i.e., Thursday or Friday).
Regardless of if we play this weekend or not, we are asking volunteers to please complete your training ASAP. These requirements are also for the safety of our players and volunteers; volunteers need to be fully certified in order to be protected under the Volunteer Protection Act of 1997 as well as to comply with federal and state laws. Coaches and Referees must be trained for their specific age division, so please make sure that you are fully certified so that your team will be ready to play when that time comes. Your volunteer dashboard shows what you have and what you need.
Best wishes,
Terry
Your Volunteer Commissioner, Coach, and Soccer Dad
