Charlie Vascellaro, one of my very favorite Baltimore bartenders (Grand Cru, Waverly Brewing...) has a really fun new project now open. Clandestino is a bar within a bar. Hidden, actually.
What began with a conversation between Charlie and Zen West owner, Po, over three years ago has become a very cool little tequila and mezcal bar tucked inside Zen West. Charlie told me about two house cocktails: one is a pineapple jalapeño margarita and the other is a mezcal cocktail with ginger liquor, agave and lime. SOLD! (ps. They make all kinds of cocktails, not just tequila and mezcal), wine, plus a small number of rotating beers on tap. There will alway be a Baltimore beer on tap, says Charlie.
You can also rent Clandestino for private events up to 50 guests.
Clandestino hours: Tuesday -Thursday 4:00pm-11:00pm Friday - Saturday 4:00pm - 12:00am

If you've ever been to (or driven by as you head down Hickory Avenue in Hampden) you know that Griffith's Tavern is not like any other place in Hampden. Part bar, part ice house. I don't like to use the term "dive bar" because it means different things to different people, but you might call Griffith's a dive. But I've always found to be a friendly, low-key dive.
It's been officially and unofficially for sale for many years and now it's finally changing hands. New owners Hannah Spangler and Allison Crowley are planning to do a few small changes but hope to keep the vibe the same. Here is more from The Baltimore Sun and follow their Instagram for the latest news.

The very good people of Mera Kitchen Collective finally moved into their very own space at the end of November. (Yay!) Enter, Omicron. (Boooooo.)
And now...months later, they are finally open (their first day open is Tuesday 3/15!) and this Friday and Saturday, they are having a grand re-opening. Enjoy new extended hours from 11am-9pm. Mera also now has a bar with beers from Suspended, Wet City and Peabody Heights, plus spiked house made juices and wine. Follow them on Instagram for more details!

ALLORA 1005 (aka the best meal I've had in a long time)
|
I had the most incredible last week at Allora on Charles Street. I loved everything we ordered: prosciutto + fig toast, mortadella, pear + watermelon radish salad and the best cacio e pepe I've had in quite some time. Maybe ever?
This place opened late last year and is in Schola's former (smaller) space. Maybe 10 tables. Italian. Bright, fresh, creative. So good. They're mainly serving breakfast and lunch right now, but follow them on Instagram to stay in the loop on special tasting menu dinners.
Bravo, Allora! I'm already plotting my next visit. And, already added to my dining guide! GO!ps. It's pronounced "ah-LORE-ah" and roughly means: then, at that moment, at that time.

SCRATCH MADE POP-UP at WELL CRAFTED
|
Well Crafted Kitchen at Union Collective is hosting the fantastic folks at Scratch Cade for a pop-up on March 18 and 19. Have you ever had Scratch Made's food? It's always creative, delicious and features ingredients from local area farm (love that part, of course). They’re cooking dishes you’d typically find on their menus but this time, cooked over fire. House smoked kielbasa, herb + cumin meatballs, green garlic bread and other things to pair with beer and lots more. Check out their website and maybe consider ordering meal delivery sometime, too – I highly recommend it. If you know me or pay attention to my message, (wait, is it a message?) I always want people to support nice people and Collin and his peeps at Scratch Made are very, very nice people!

Love all the different small (and very expensive) houses.

This little bar was fantastic, an original People's Drugstore location.

My first Emmy Squared experience was, well...pretty amazing.

I will be writing a blog post about this little excursion soon! It's kind of cool that I've been able to piece together all of my staycations and weekend getaways into a travel section on my blog. I AM FANCY.

I GOT HACKED TO FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER! 💩
|
Yipes! My Instagram was hacked a few weeks ago. Luckily, after I deleted my old @charmcitycook account two years ago, I later decided to claim the handle...just in case. I was thinking it would feel weird for someone else to post under that handle, right? RIGHT. In the grand scheme of things, this is not a big deal. I mean, I don't use IG for my business — otherwise, I might be flipping out! Please take a sec to follow me here: charmcitycook and block and report @amylangrehr on IG as spam.

AND LAST BUT MOST CERTAINLY NOT LEAST
