Week two shone with safe, fair, and fun soccer. All of last Saturday’s games counted towards the standings in competitive divisions (10U and up). Thank you, Gary Loitz, Ian Zimmerman, and Stephen Raynor, for the awesome game photos!
Here are big ways to help out on gameday
🥅 Field Set-Up & Breakdown
If your team plays the first or last game of the day, we need help with setting up and breaking down fields. Coaches and team managers are notified ahead of time, so when that ask comes, please plan to arrive early or stay later to help out! The work is easy when everyone pitches in.
🎪The Victory Park Info Tent Needs Volunteers
If you played at Victory Park last week, you saw fellow soccer parents at the big red tent directing family members to fields, accepting items for the lost & found, and having fun. There are also lots of free donuts. Bonus: For those with kids playing on Field 5 (6U teams), the Info Tent is essentially the only shade available. Sign up for the hour that your team is playing and enjoy a comfy front-row seat to the game.
To get your spot, register as a volunteer, then SIGN UP for a shift at the Information Tent.

🌞⛈️Can You Believe This Weather?
Autumn in Southern California means games and practices can be affected by the weather. If it’s extreme heat, rain, or anything else, always check the homepage of ayso13.org for the official word on whether fields are open or closed.
Over three weekends this fall, Region 13 is “taking over” one 1OU field for a celebration of our beloved game officials. Each day has a theme, and a crew of experienced referees will handle reffing duties for the full slate of that day’s games. The goal is to showcase some of our more experienced volunteers—and each B10U team ref will get the day off while still receiving their ref credit!
The first 10U takeover starts this weekend with “Talk Like a Pirate Day” at the LCHS JV field. Refs will be clad in cool black uniforms. If you’re an experienced referee who’d like to take part in a takeover, click here to learn more and sign up.
Never Stop Learning
Can strategies from Barcelona be adapted to 6U AYSO? Why yes, they can! Can coaches, using only words, change the mindset of athletes? Also yes!
Our speaker is Barry Ritson, who, besides running the LA Surf club, is kind of a big deal in US Soccer. He has coached the U16 women's national team, helped start the Girls' Academy, and is now president of the Development Player League.

Letter from the Commissioner
Hi ⚽️ Families,
We are definitely off and running in our 2025 Season! It’s been fun watching everyone dive back into a weekly rhythm of practices and games, orange slices and all. Now, I’m expecting to see those team banners start to appear with all your awesome team names!
This week, speaking as a longtime referee, I am extremely excited for the first of out three upcoming Referee Fun Days taking place on the LCHS JV 10U field. Since Friday is “Talk Like a Pirate Day” (look it up!), you may find that field looking and sounding suddenly a bit more swashbuckling. We referees are looking forward to demonstrating that good refereeing and fun games go hand-in-hand, or maybe hand-in-hook.
