Indie Ink Awards and Other News
|
The Indie Ink Awards recently held their virtual award ceremony over Zoom. Unfortunately, When Shadows Fall did not win any of its categories, though I did get a fun badge for being a finalist!
|
In other news, I completely forgot to mention that I was invited to be part of a roundtable with three of my fellow indie authors in August! It was a lot of fun chatting about the writing and publishing process, and I was honoured to be invited on the show. I've included a link to the video for anyone interested in checking it out!

September is usually a slower month for me as I adjust to my school hours and get back into the rhythm of it all. Add that to catching the first school bug, and it does not make for a very productive month!
That said, I have made a habit of going to the public library on many of my afternoons off, and this has increased the productivity of my half days considerably. I tend to work longer and focus better, and thanks to ten years of Starbucks gift cards from students, I've been able to treat myself to some pumpkin spice lattes!
I've been going through the sequel to do a few minor revisions, improve descriptions, and check for continuity, in addition to some general editing. I'm about ten chapters into it, and pretty pleased with my progress so far!

Here's one of my favourite writing nooks at the library!
|
I plan to continue working on my edits/minor revisions for the sequel. I still have a lot to do, so I imagine it will take all of October and perhaps a bit longer to finish. However, I am hoping that this will mean less work when I get to the hardcore editing stage!
I'll also be starting up my drawing class this month, which I do every year to make a little extra cash to offset my afternoons off. I enjoy the chance to teach and share my skills, though it does cut into my writing time!

Reading: I'm finally diving into Wrath of Olympus, one of the many indie books I got during the Narratess sales. I'm about half way through and curious to see where the story goes!
I'm also listening to Watership Down on Audible, and so far, I'm really enjoying it! It's a light, easy listen, while still holding my interest, making it perfect for a bit of light multitasking.

When Shadows Fall is a YA fantasy novel about an anxious teen who must go on a perilous quest to save her sister. It is available on Amazon in eBook and print and in the Kindle Unlimited library. It was shortlisted for two provincial book awards and was a finalist for three Indie Ink Awards: Best Setting, Best Friendship, and Writing the Future We Need: Mental Health Representation.
