New LMC Guidance: Shared Care and Right to Choose
The LMC has published two new guidance documents for GPs and practice teams covering issues we receive lots of queries about: Shared Care and Right to Choose.

Shared Care
This summarises key points to consider including: factors for GPs to consider; what medications come under shared care; requests from different types of providers; grounds to refuse a shared care agreement; and stopping a shared care agreement. Also includes a sample shared care checklist for practices plus shared care template letters. Read the LMC Shared Care guidance.

Right to Choose
This covers: criteria providers need to meet; what GP practices need to know; how it applies to mental health; waiting times; and common questions. Also includes a sample patient information leaflet and sample letter. Read the LMC Right to Choose guidance.
Joint LMC Letter Regarding ICB Consultation
Humberside LMC and YORLMC have written a joint letter to the leadership of Humber and North Yorkshire ICB regarding their proposed operating model to raised concerns around support for primary care under the new structure and a reduction in Place-based support for general practice. We will keep you informed on developments.
Guidance on Consent for Vaccination
The BMA have published new guidance on the provision of vaccinations by non-registered healthcare workers. This new guidance covers: UKHSA minimum standards and core curriculum for vaccination training; consent, patient group directions (PGDs); the role of HCSWs in vaccination, and also provides a practice checklist.

The BMA document follows the UKHSA updating their guidance on the national minimum standards and core curriculum for vaccination training, including the role non-registered healthcare professionals should play in the provision of vaccinations. It specifies that non-registered HCSWs are unable to obtain the clinical consent for vaccination, with Registered Health Care Professionals (RHCPs) needing to obtain clinical consent. It also covers the recommended training for those HCSWs who will administer vaccines. This is following the concerns raised with them over the updated minimum standards in vaccination training and the significant uncertainty that it caused, particularly around the role of HCAs in vaccination clinics.
General Practice Appointments November 2025
Appointments data from NHS Digital shows there were over 510,000 appointments in general practice in the Humber area in November 2025. Download a one page summary poster to display in practices.
GPs
Pathway and Policy Repository (PPR)
Humber and North Yorkshire ICB has published details on the Policy and Pathway Repository (PPR). Referrers across primary care, community services, and secondary care face challenges in accessing up-to-date, consistent referral clinical commissioning policies and clinical pathways. The PPR addresses a critical gap in clinical referral support by offering a centralised, accessible, and user-driven repository. The PPR can be found at HNY Policy and Pathway Repository. You can also download a new information sheet and briefing slides on the PPR.
Professional Fees Committee News
The BMA's Professional Fees Committee (PFC) is a pan-BMA four-nation committee representing doctors who undertake professional work outside their NHS contracts. The committee negotiates fees for various services, including part-time medical work, government and medico-legal tasks, insurance and commercial work, and a range of reports and certificates for patients or third parties. The latest PFC newsletter includes updates on: ongoing fee negotiations; Ministry of Justice; Department of Work and Pensions; DVLA; charging for non-GMS work; and firearms. PRACTICE MANAGERS
BMA GP Practice Finance Survey
The General Practitioners’ Committee is inviting GP practices to take part in the BMA’s practice finance survey. Your responses will be vital in strengthening the evidence base for the 2026/27 contract consultations and future negotiations. This annual survey is a key opportunity to demonstrate the real impact of sustained inflation and rising costs over recent years.

Submitting your survey data should take less than 10 minutes, provided you complete a few simple steps to ensure you’re set up in advance. You’ll need a copy of your GP practice accounts covering the last two years to hand to complete the survey.
Covid and Flu Specifications
NHS England has published a joint COVID and flu specification for 2026. This moves the COVID vaccination programme to a practice level, removing the need for COVID vaccinations to be delivered via a PCN. However, practices will still be able to deliver just the flu programme.
