Region 13 Tournament, Picture Day, All-Stars, and Sunday Soccer continues

What to Expect - Week 5

Another packed newsletter with important information as we head into week 5, so be sure to read everything everything below to stay up-to-date!

Players

Are you having a blast playing this season and ready for another challenge? Don't let the unknown stop you from trying out for All-Stars! All-Stars is open to Girls & Boys 10U, 12U, and 14U, and tryouts will be starting later this month!

Parents

Please encourage your child to sign up for All-Stars or the Region 13 Thanksgiving Tournament (formally known as the MST Tournament), it's a great way for them to continue playing and to continue developing their skills. They need your support and encouragement! Visit the website for more information, or reach out to your coaches.

Additional reminders:

✔ Picture Day will be held on Oct. 15, Nov. 5, and Nov. 12 at Victory Park.  Your team has been assigned a time and day so check with your coach for the schedule.

✔ If you have the first game on the field, everyone gets to help set up the goals. Yay! For the last game, help take them down.

✔ Please remember to set your coaches up for success, and let theirs be the only voices directing the kids what to do during games.

✔ We'd love to hear from you! Please send us your feedback here: https://ayso13.org/feedback.

Coaches

Now that your players have some ball skills (scissors, sole rolls, etc.), make sure to focus on another equally important skills like empathy, persistence, and goal setting!

Here's a suggestion: Team circle-ups are a helpful tradition. Ask the players to hold up to 1 to 5 fingers to represent how they're feeling about their progress (this is a quick way to get feedback, and it allows for nonverbal expression). Next, ask the players to name one thing about soccer they would like to get better at. For more on best practices for team development, check out Keep Girls In Sport - it works for everyone!

Our next Continuing Coach Education session is Monday, October 17 from 6:30 - 8 pm at the AYSO Region 13 Clubhouse. Another great opportunity to get some insights from a very experienced coach - Barry Ritson of Surf and Launch Sports.

Additional reminders:

✔ Don't forget to put your Team Name in the trophy order spreadsheet. Otherwise it defaults to what's there (ex. G6U12-Simpson).

Game cards need to be printed on card stock - stop by the Clubhouse to pick up card stock if you have run out.

✔ Practices should only be held on your team's scheduled place and time where the league has field permits.

Do you need any helpful tips or ideas on how to structure your practices? Don't forget to checkout Mojo, they are a great resources for all levels.

✔ Need additional tips on coaching or cultivating a strong team culture? Visit Region 13 Coaching Guide for more info.

Referees

Please remember to return Game Cards to Region 13's Clubhouse at the end of each Saturday. If you are the last game referee on non-Victory Park fields, make sure the white envelope on the goal makes it through to the Clubhouse mail slot. The last coaches and referees can decide who takes it to the Clubhouse. The address is on the envelope!

Additional reminders:

✔ Remember to write your team's ID (e.g. B14U04) on the game card so your team gets credit. Return game cards to the envelope at the tent at Victory or through the mail slot at the clubhouse. You can also use the QR code on the bottom to upload pictures but we also need the paper game cards returned!

✔ Remember to use the referee schedule app to confirm your referee assignment. If you can't make an assignment, click "No" to let another referee know to fill in for you!

Team Managers

More information has been released for Picture Day! Check out our website for more information. If you haven't already, please start reaching out to your teams so parents know when your team's scheduled date is.

A few important reminders:

✔ Each player will receive both Team and Individual digital pictures.

✔ Additional items can be ordered on Picture Day.

✔ Photos will be taken at Victory Park.

✔ Teams will check-in with the photographer 15 minutes prior to the start of the photo session.
