What to do

August 21: the Open House & Shoe Exchange is from 6-7, in person. Bring your old shoes! The Parent Orientation is from 7-8, in person and on Zoom. Practices start September 3 and games kick off on Saturday, September 7.
Teams are being assigned this week, and your coach should contact you over the weekend.
The waiting list of 500 kids is finally shrinking, as many parents have come forward in the last few days to coach and referee.
More referees are still needed. Many kids are still on the waiting list.
4U & 5U - everyone from the waiting list is on a team. Find your assignment and schedule in the spreadsheet at ayso13.org/preschool and sign up for one week to be the coach's helper. Uniform pickup dates will be announced on that page, and there's also a link to the orientation briefing. Check on your inLeague dashboard. If you're still on the waiting list, you may still need to pay (look for the $ at the top of the screen in inLeague). Note that professional coaches run the teams so you don't have to take any AYSO classes, though of course you're welcome to. 4U & 5U lasts for 8 weeks, starting September 7.
Older kids: your child's team still needs more volunteers, even though teams are assigned, so your coach may ask you to be an assistant coach or referee. Say "Yes" when your coach asks you.
6U, 7U, 8U - Division coordinators are finalizing the team assignments this week. The league runs from Labor Day until Thanksgiving.
10U, 12U, 14U - Team assignments will be sent to Head Coaches this week. League play is from Labor Day to Thanksgiving with playoffs in December.
16U - The first training is on August 25 at South Pas HS, from 9 - 11 am. After the first training, coaches will draft teams. Team training and games will start after Labor day. Everyone from the waiting list can play -- we're just a little behind in processing the registrations.
19U - Teams have started training. There is room for a few more players, if you're feeling the FOMO.
After teams are assigned, and we know how many teams there are in each age division, we start making the schedule. We've made some changes this year so hopefully we'll get it out in the next couple of weeks.
Soon, coaches will receive a survey inviting them to indicate their practice field preferences. The Fields Team will attempt to give every coach their 1st or 2nd choice before the end of the month.
Someone always has a schedule conflict. If you need to switch teams because of a severe, insurmountable obstacle, ask to your division coordinator.
One of AYSO's core philosophies is that the teams be balanced. For the competitive divisions, 10U, 12U, and 14U, coaches were invited to review the team formation process, happening Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Teams are formed by a blind draw that aims form each team with players of a similar range of abilities. Every team will have some strong, returning players, and also a few kids who are new to soccer.
Coach classes on August 17 will be at La Salle HS, 3880 East Sierra Madre Boulevard, Pasadena, CA 91107.
Please enter the school via the Michillinda driveway and park in the school lot. Overflow street parking is on Sierra Madre Blvd North of the school or on Michillinda Ave. Please DO NOT park on Canfield Rd. as the school will receive complaints and we would like to continue using La Salle for soccer games.
Coach classes on August 24 will be at Odyssey Charter School, 725 West Altadena Drive | Altadena, CA 91001, except the 12U class, which will be at the Clubhouse.
To check on your training status, login and view the NEW dashboard. It’s based off the role(s) you selected in your volunteer preferences. Most training is online, followed by in-person coach/referee classes in late July and August. There will be some in September, but it's much better to do take them before the season starts.
If you are the head coach for more than one team, the games will be scheduled as conveniently as possible. Click here to see the Upcoming In-Person Coach Classes and Upcoming Referee Classes. More will be added between now and the start of the soccer season. To register for a class, go to eTrainU and enroll through the Training Event page. There will be division meetings for coaches and referees the week of August. There will be a quiz a the end. See the calendar for the Zoom links.

All-Stars & Thanksgiving Tournament
All Players 10U, 12U & 14U players from the core league are invited to try out each October to play on teams representing Region 13 in the Thanksgiving Tournament (Nov 29 - Dec 1) and All-Star season (Jan–Feb ‘24.)
NEXT is a new program for 10U, 12U, and 14U players looking to level up during the fall core program. In addition to playing with their regular Core team, you'll play friendly games with other enthusiastic kids on Sundays, and compete in AYSO tournaments throughout SoCal. This is an informal program, so any fully certified coach can draft ad-hoc teams from a pool of players as schedules allow, at any skill level. If you want to get some friends together to challenge another school, this is for you! NEXT will inspire dedicated players to strengthen bonds with teammates, challenge themselves in competitive tournaments, and deepen their love for the game.

I’d like to express my appreciation and give thanks to all the volunteers who have been hard at work preparing for the fall season as well as those who have volunteered to coach, referee, manage a team, or just help out in our Region. It is because of volunteers like you that AYSO Region 13 is able to work and provide soccer to thousands of kids.
If you have not yet volunteered, there's still time to sign up. Region 13 has made several family-friendly changes to help make it easier for you to volunteer, and it’s a great way to stay involved in your kids' lives.
In a few short weeks, our season will start and all the work that you've been doing is going to pay off - our kids will be playing some soccer. Win, lose, or draw, in the end what's important is that our kids are playing and that they have fun! I wish you all a good season!
