Jennifer Camp, AIA

Favorite building: Other than hi.arch.y llp’s next building 😉. The Pantheon. It is an engineering marvel, a perfect sphere whose interior feels perpetually balanced. With a single source of light animating the space, the building achieves a rare sense of calm. I could spend hours there; it is timeless in both structure and spirit.
Favorite book: The way of Bodhisattva. It's an easy morning read. I focus on one passage in the morning and that helps me set up my intention for the day. |

Favorite building: Other than all of our own, my favorite non hi.arch.y llp project in town remains the FHB Tower. Love the use of timeless and durable materials inside and out and it’s response to the environment through shading and fenestration strategies long before LEED was even on the scene.
Favorite book: The Power of Habit. Habits drive everything we do in life. I have the book saved on my phone, always find something new when I crack it open. Also love all the research backing the positions. |

Jennifer replies to "What does it mean to share architecture as a family?"
Sharing architecture as a family profession means it’s never felt separate from my life, it’s part of how I see the world. I began my career working with my dad, who is an architect, and through that experience I learned early that architecture is about responsibility, care, and collaboration, not just design. That perspective feels inherited as my grandfather was an engineer in Mexico. I’ve always felt a deep connection to shaping the built environment thoughtfully.
I experience that most clearly in my partnership with Phil. As life and professional partners, we share a vision of the built environment that feels deeply aligned and in our genes. Since college, we’ve shared the same work ethic, design sensibility, and aesthetic values. Architecture, for us, is not separate from life. It’s the lens through which we understand responsibility, collaboration, and purpose. Sharing that vision across generations and within our marriage is grounding and deeply meaningful for me. |

Jon Krizan, AIA Member since 2025
Favorite building: The Teshima Art Museum in Japan by Ryue Nishizawa and Rei Naito. I love this building because, despite its simplicity and emptiness, it creates an incredibly powerful experience. I think achieving something like this requires a deep mastery of architectural fundamentals and construction — it’s a level of restraint and clarity that’s very inspiring.
Where do you work? I currently work at WATG Architects. My first “visit” to Hawaiʻi was on Google Earth in 2016, and I haven’t been the same since 😊. In 2018, I joined WATG in Honolulu and moved out here. In 2022, I took a hiatus to work at Zaha Hadid Architects in London, with the intention of eventually returning to Hawaiʻi — which I did in 2024. Altogether, I’ve spent about 5–6 years here and plan to stay for good. |

Favorite building: I never had a single favorite building, but if I had to choose one it would be my next one. I truly appreciate all kinds of architecture and spaces because they evoke different emotions and reactions from me. When I visit great buildings designed by great architects, I often feel their presence and their greatness, almost as though I am walking upon hallowed ground.
Where do you work? I am the founder of Arcturus, an architecture and interiors practice focused on high end residential and boutique hospitality projects. I was recently licensed in Hawaiʻi and am in the process of actively growing my practice while pursuing NCARB certification, LEED accreditation, and future licenses within the US and abroad to expand my work throughout the Pacific region. |
