In just over two months' time, we will come together as a nation to pay tribute to the millions of people across the UK and Commonwealth who served in or were impacted by the Second World War.

The official four day programme of events commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) and VJ (Victory over Japan) will be a time of national celebration and commemoration and there are lots of ways you will be able to get involved.

From street parties to military processions, we will keep you informed on all the news, events, exhibitions and installations taking place across the country to mark VE and VJ Day 80. Find out more below about our recent updates and ways you can get involved!

If so, you can submit it to the official VE and VJ Day 80 interactive map that we will launch in the coming weeks. The map will showcase the wide range of activity, celebrations, commemorations and parties taking place across the country.

Letters to Loved Ones

Imperial War Museums (IWM) is encouraging school children and families across the UK to delve into their family histories and discover letters written by their relatives to loved ones during the Second World War.

A selection of letters will be chosen to be included as part of an IWM and National Theatre performance taking place on 7 May, along with high profile public figures sharing letters from IWM’s collection.

You can also share your letters and the stories behind them through our website. Submissions made before 14 April will be considered as part of the performance.

National Lottery Community Funding

Grants from the National Lottery Community Fund Awards For All programme are available for organisations to bid for, to host events, activities and projects marking VE Day.

Tip Top Towns

Whether you live in a town, village or city, we’re encouraging the public, volunteer networks and community groups to come together ahead of Monday 5 May in getting their area ready for VE Day 80 celebrations.
