EA NYC Opportunities and UpdatesFinal Call: EAGxNYC Applications Close SoonNYC's first EA conference is almost here - we hope to see
all of you locals there! While we
previously shared some logistical details, Alex would like to clarify a couple things to hopefully reduce any friction around applying:
- The acceptance rate is >75%
- The purpose of the application is largely to select for NY-based applicants
- This means that the acceptance rate for NY-based applicants is likely much greater than 75% in practice
- If you do not apply, I can guarantee that you will miss this event (unfortunately)
- (If you think it would be helpful, I encourage you to read on for some excellent recent blogs about others' journeys applying despite uncertainty - though, in this case, I think the odds are quite in your favor)
Finally, I cannot understate how great we expect this (500+ person) event to be. Whether you're looking to expand your professional network, explore diverse career paths, dive deeper into EA toolkits, or simply get inspired, this conference is for you. And whether you're working in animal welfare or artificial intelligence, bioethics or biosecurity, communications or consulting, (the list goes on...) this conference is for you.
The event will run from August 18th to 20th, and applications close on July 31st. Please take a moment to
apply now. And if you already have - great, please
spread the word to your effective-altruism-enthusiast friends!
Otherwise, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns about applying. You can
book a call with me directly here, send me a message
on our Slack ("Alex RK"),
shoot me an email / respond to this email, talk to me at an event - whatever is easiest for you. (And/or the rest of
our team is here to help as well if you'd like to chat with
Rocky,
Arthur, or
Megan!) We really hope to see you at the event!
Call for EA NYC Board MembersEffective Altruism NYC is seeking enthusiastic board members to help provide oversight, guidance and accountability to the organization and its Director!
Please fill in this brief application if you might be interested in joining the Effective Altruism NYC board of directors.
You can find more details about the role inside the application form itself, but there aren't necessarily strict requirements to apply - the existing board is hoping to build a mix of skills and perspectives to help represent the diversity of the community in EA NYC's governance.
So if you're unsure, please don't hesitate to apply! If you're not fully familiar with
our team, the NYC community, certain kinds of processes, or any other particular aspect of governing EA NYC, your different perspective might actually help to make the organization stronger, and
we encourage you to apply!
Applications are especially welcome
before August 13, though, rolling applications will also be considered.

welcome your feedback if it's relevant to you and you have suggestions for improvements.
EA Movement UpdatesStrategy FortnightLast month, thought leaders from across the EA movement worked together to share ideas and suggestions in an "EA Strategy Fortnight." You can check out many interesting posts on the EA Forum about community building strategy, movement history and analysis, reflections on FTX and other major issues, and specific calls to action. We highlight many of these posts in the Community Updates & Global News section below, but you can find all of the tagged posts through the EA Forum "EA Strategy Fortnight" topic link above.
