Hi pal, This week, I’m on the road. I’m working with Detroit Public TV & PBS, to create a pledge drive program based on Finance for the People. In preparation, I’ve been thinking a lot about this quote from James Clear: "Every transaction is paid for at least three times. First, with the money you pay. Second, with the time you spend. Third, with the reputation you create through your behavior.Being pleasant, reliable, and easy to work with might cost you a little more time. Perhaps even a bit of extra money. But the long-term returns from a great reputation usually outweigh the cost of a single transaction. Most of the value in life and in business arises out of good relationships."
Your favorite finance friend,

1. 💵 Making Finance for the People with Paco de Leon (Earn & Invest Podcast) Here’s an interview I did with the wonderful Doc G, who is an excellent interviewer. We talked about my earlier career, the most important steps anyone can take to reach their financial goals, build wealth and maintain their ethics.
2. 🍳 Why Are Eggs So Expensive, and WTF Do I Cook Instead? (Bon Appetit)3. 🏠 The Mexico City Realtor Selling Penthouses Without Bathrooms (Curbed) Part of their realtor diaries series.4. 💁🏻 Who Benefits When Salary Info Is Public? (The New York Times) It’s good for pay equity, and it can be good for managers, but it’s not so good for superstars.5. 🤓 A bookkeeping thing - How to Determine Who Receives a 1099-MISC or a 1099-NEC (HYG Original) Technically, the deadline to send out 1099’s was on January 31, but you can still file late!
6. 🤔 For Love or Money (The Baffler) “Marriage is always, in one form or another, a shelter, though whether you hear that word and think “home,” or think it is what comes after “tax,” is a matter of wealth.”7. 📹 Vigilantes for views: The YouTube pranksters harassing suspected scam callers in India (Rest of World) Los Angeles-based Trilogy Media took “scambaiting” to a new level, but some claim they’re gaining viral fame at others’ expense.8. 🍽️ How Noma Made Fine Dining Far Worse (The Atlantic) The food world glorified a Copenhagen restaurant built on uncompensated labor. “In any other industry, this would go without saying: A business that builds wealth and renown without paying anything, much less a living wage, to nearly half its workers is not worth celebrating no matter how exceptional the output. But ever since Noma started racking up Michelin stars and topping world’s-best lists, the rest of the food world has looked to it as the embodiment of what a perfect, modern fine-dining establishment should be.”

Together, with the fine folks over at iHeartRadio, we’re launching a new podcast called Weird Finance – a show to help us all feel a little less weird about money, one conversation at a time.
Each week, me and a special guest will do the thing that many consider taboo, gauche, and downright tacky - we’re gonna talk about money. I’d also like to answer your money questions!
If you have a question you’d like me to answer on the show, you can leave me a voicemail at 833-ASK-PACO. You can also email me your question by replying to this email or emailing us at weirdfinancepod@gmail.com.

We can't do this work without you. Thanks for being part of the crew and reading this far. Peace.
