Hi friend,Financial planners are often asked for their one piece of financial advice. I’ve heard many of them say, from a purely financial perspective, to never get divorced. It doesn’t take an expert to understand how costly it is to split one household into two. And it’s not just the financial aftermath of divorce that’s expensive, it’s also the act.The American Bar Association reported that 70% of people can't afford or don’t want to spend money on a divorce attorney. And Forbes recently reports that the average legal fees you can expect to pay for a divorce will set you back about $15k.With barriers and biases every step of the way — getting a divorce through traditional methods often ramps up conflict, instead of minimizing it. I spoke to Erin Levine, a former divorce attorney and founder of Hello Divorce to get some pointers on navigating the divorce process successfully. Erin believes that divorce can and should empower a better life ahead instead of destroying people emotionally, legally and financially. Your friend in finance,
