My husband and I have 3 children and we enjoy staying fit and healthy. Since recovering from breast cancer in 2014 I believe in living each day to the full and enjoy spending time with friends and family, including walking with our Labrador whom we acquired as a rescue during the lockdown. Another thing I'm passionate about is reducing waste and trying to protect the environment. The current extreme temperatures are very worrying for our future. Twice a year I host a clothes swap party. The concept is to bring clothes and accessories that are still in great condition but no longer fit or you feel are not flattering on you. Generally girls only are allowed and we usually share some food and drink after trying on our newly acquired items. It is always a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and some of my favourite things in my wardrobe have originated from someone else's!
Instagram worth following: I confess to being a bit 'old-school' and not great with Instagram but check me out at
idysl3xia.
I'm proud of my son who is currently completing his internship in New York. He has recently started a YouTube page called 'Rugby Drive' where he creates rugby videos and his work page for Instagram is
JCDecaux North America.
I admire my niece Mollie Higginson who has been proactive in promoting young people to venture into the world of horticulture. Check out
yphorticultureFavourite place to swim: Cala Monjo with the dog is fantastic all year round, as long as you don't mind it being clothing optional! You do have to endure the odd old man dangling his maggot, so stay alert! I also enjoy swimming with my cold-water swimming group off-season at
Cala Comtesa.A place worth eating at: I enjoy going for breakfast at the
Cafe PalmaNova (previously Amadip). Many of the ingredients are home-grown and it is an innovative concept with a diverse staffing policy, with an inclusive nature that should be replicated and applauded, as should the freshly cooked tortilla, with caramelized onion and the Swiss buns, which are amazing! Our family also loves
Thai Beach Street Food in Palma Nova.
Who is making a product we should know about: Carole Richardson is a self-taught artist who has been inspirational to me and can do commissions for you when she is here on the island. She often
hosts the painting group on Monday mornings at Carrer de la Lluna in Bendinat, where any proceeds go to charity.
Best month of the year on Mallorca: For me, it's April or whenever Easter falls. This is when I don my walking boots and set out to walk for charity with a group of friends. This year we walked the South Coast of Menorca. I am a committee member for
Cancer Support Mallorca (CSG) and I began 'Walking the GR221 For Cancer Support Mallorca' in 2016, raising valuable funds for a charity close to my heart. I have made many fabulous new friends and we have raised over 20 000 euros for
CSG over the years.
What is one other secret/great tip about Mallorca that you'd like to share with our readers: If you like singing then come and join our choir! We practice on a Monday between 7 and 8 pm at
Zeppelin's bar in Magaluf. It's a great bunch of people and you will be welcome to come and give it a go.
