SPFBOX (Self-Published Fantasy Blog Off 10) is underway. Ten of the three hundred books have been cut so far, and a number have been selected as semi-finalists.When Shadows Fall was one of the thirty books allocated to YouTube book blogger Philip Chase and his team. Originally, each member of his team was given five books from which they were supposed to choose a semi-finalist, but one of the members is no longer able to participate, so her books have been redistributed to the others. I believe the semi-finalists will be picked by August, at which point Philip Chase will choose one finalist from among them.My book was moved to Abel Montero, who recently introduced When Shadows Fall in a video alongside other book previews and reviews. It is a bit nerve-wracking not knowing if my book will make it through this first stage, but I am hoping for the best!I will continue to give updates in my newsletters, but if you want to follow along with SPFBOX in the meantime, you can keep an eye on Mark Lawrence's blog post to see all the cuts and semi-finalists as they happen!

The end of the school year is always a hectic time, but I have made some good progress on the revisions for book two of Shadows of the Vale. My beta readers identified a number of issues with the sequel, and I've already spent over thirty hours going through their notes and reworking the book to try and address the various problems.
I also had some fun with When Shadows Fall's first birthday, hosting a giveaway on Twitter and running some promotions throughout June. It didn't make a huge impact on sales, but it did draw in a handful of new subscribers! (Welcome, by the way!)

With summer finally here, I will be free to dedicate a lot of time to getting the When Shadows Fall sequel in shape. While I've gotten a good start on it, there is still plenty of work to be done, and tons of editing besides.
I hope to dedicate the next two months to hardcore revisions/editing of book two, and possibly revisit book three as well. In order to make the most use of this time as I can, I may skip the August newsletter, but if I do, I promise to update you on all my summer deeds in September!

Reading: With SPFBOX well under way, I thought I'd take a look at some of the past winners. Right now, I'm reading Murder at Spindle's Manor. So far, this gas-light fantasy/murder mystery has been a delightful read, and I'm not at all surprised it won last year!
Playing: I got quite the itch to play Slay the Spire again (a rogue-like deck-building video game), so I've been enjoying a few runs of that while trying not to let it distract me from writing!

Thank you for reading! As always, here are some kitty pictures to reward you for your diligence. 😊
I left my backpack out and Kaylee had a heyday trying out every conceivable sleeping position in her 'new bed'. These are just a few of the poses I captured!
