Thanksgiving Tournament wrap-up

And a big thanks to Referee Admin Matthew Goldman and Tournament Director Patrick Shopbell! Besides being fun, the Thanksgiving Tournament is an important fundraiser for Region 13 and helps keep soccer affordable for everyone.

Rose City Cup

Find the rules and schedule at ayso13.org/rosecity/.

Everyone plays at least one match on the first day. Winners may play a second game on the first day.
As long as you keep winning, your team keeps training together and playing games.
Every game needs a winner. In the event of a tie, proceed to a penalty kick shootout. Only the final games will have two, 5-minute overtime periods.
Everyone will receive a medal.
Teams who win the final game of their flight’s tournament will also receive a shiny trophy.
In the “A flight,” if you lose the semifinals, remember to go to the 3rd place game.
“A flight” champions will continue to the Area 1C League Playoffs in South Pasadena on Dec 14-15.
If you win that, you get to go to the SoCal Section 1 League Championship, February 22-23 in Chino.
If you win that, there's Wester States Championships.

What to expect? Watching your child play in the Rose City Cup has been compared to watching the World Cup. Please remember that the referees, being volunteers, have never been in an actual World Cup before, and it's a new experience for them, too.

Volunteers

The volunteer recognition & holiday dinner is the one time we all get together in the same room. You should go!

Coaches

At the field on Saturday, there will be a box full of medals for the players. When your team loses, take a bag of medals and record the game result on the clipboard. Please be sure to take only one kit of medals! Return leftovers to the box so they can be reused when someone else drops theirs into a storm drain.

Referees

Please check the 10U - 14U referee assignments for this weekend in inLeague. You may want to brush up on the Penalty Kick procedure, too.

Managers

Links to team photos have been sent to coaches and special orders (e.g. plaques, player cards, etc) are being mailed out now. Families should check with their coach if they didn't receive a link. Players who did makeup pictures and coaches who didn't receive a link can follow up with team@ayso13.org.

Upcoming

What about the spring?

Baseball, basketball, figure skating, rugby, volleyball, tennis, swimming ...

Seriously -- the best way to become a strong athlete is to play multiple sports. Want your kids to continue playing soccer (or basketball, or ...) into adulthood? As PT Barnum says, "always leave 'em wanting more." That, and children who play multiple sports have fewer injuries. Here are some links:

If you do want more soccer, you can now register for Grad Series and Winter Stars.

Grad Series is a mini-season for girls and boys in 8U (and the oldest 7U players) to help transition to the 10U Division. You'll learn about positions, offside, and goalkeeping. Games are on bigger fields with bigger goals. The season runs from January to February for a total of 8 weeks. ayso13.org/grad-series

Winter Stars is an informal pick-up style soccer program on Sunday afternoons for ages 5-13, for 8-10 weeks. The program is great for players who enjoyed the fall season and want to keep playing soccer with their friends. The fields are designated "friendly" and "competitive" where players decide which field they'd like to play on. ayso13.org/winter-stars
