Contemplative Outreach Pittsburgh 2024 October News We embrace the process of transformation in Christ, both in ourselves and in others, through the practice of Centering Prayer.

Greetings Friends,
Nature shows us the beauty of transformation. As we welcome the colors of Fall and the fresh, crisp change in the air, the COP Service Team invites you to participate in transformation on November 23, 2024 by attending a half day in-person Chapter enrichment event on the "Welcoming Prayer". Please see additional details in this newsletter below! We hope to see you there!
"The Welcoming Prayer" or "consent on the go" helps us grow in our relationship with God. This method of consenting to God’s presence and action in our lives eases the strain from our physical and emotional reactions to the challenges we share this Autumn. May the peace, joy, and light of the world and Heaven shine on us all.
I took a Celtic Spirituality Pilgrimage to Ireland this month and I wish to share a little with you with these 2 photos: The first photo above is of the gravesite of 3 of Ireland's saints in County Downpatrick: St. Patrick, St. Columba, and St. Brigid.
The photo below is from Glendalough where St. Kevin settled in the 4-5th Century. His life, and those of our evangelists such as he, embraced the Pascal Mystery. This Celtic Soul journey revealed how increasingly God became the reality in which the early Christians lived. Recall how Fr. Thomas would say for us today, faith is our fourth dimension in which we exist. The ancient Celtic faith was of humans' ability to participate in God's eternal creation through their passions, skills, and talents. This is seen in the ancient art remnants and structures that remain all over Ireland. As I traveled earlier this month, the thought of a Contemplative Outreach Pilgrimage played in my imagination. Let us dream!

Contemplative Outreach of Pittsburgh Chapter Retreat November 23, 2024
The Welcoming Prayer with Jim McElroy via Zoom
Church of the Redeemer 5700 Forbes Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15217
Preliminary schedule: In-person Registration - 8:30 am Program 9:00 am-12:00 pm - followed by lunch
The Welcoming Prayer is a method of consenting to the presence and action of the Holy Spirit — the Divine Indwelling — in the midst of our everyday lives. Through the Welcoming Prayer, we consent specifically to what we experience in our bodies as we react to what happens to us and around us. The Welcoming Prayer helps us greet these automatic reactions with compassion and replace them with more measured and loving responses.
This half-day retreat gives us the opportunity to delve more into the Welcoming Prayer, which we didn’t quite get to at the end of our wonderful Spring Retreat. However, this half-day retreat is aimed at everyone, whether you attended the Spring Retreat or not, whether you are an experienced or occasional practitioner of the Welcoming Prayer, or a novice.
We will begin the retreat with Centering Prayer, followed by teaching on the Welcoming Prayer with plenty of time to ask questions, share our experiences, and practice. Finally, the retreat is just a beautiful opportunity to come together as community.
Wait...there's more! Interested in a deeper journey of the Welcoming Prayer? Spirituality and Practice are offering an E-Course on the Welcoming Prayer, starting November 4rth. This fits perfectly :-) For more information, click HERE For partial scholarships for the E-course, click HERE

Gifts from My Uncle, Thomas Keating
November 2, 2024 (Saturday) 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM ET
Explore the life and teachings of Thomas Keating through the deeply personal experiences of his nephew, Ted Jones.
This retreat offers a unique perspective on Thomas’s spiritual journey & teaching, seen through the eyes of a close family member, from their early, awkward encounters to the profound moments at Thomas’s bedside in his final days.
Experience the wisdom and spiritual teachings that Ted received from Thomas, woven through personal anecdotes and reflections on contemplation, devotion, and non-duality. The retreat will also explore the rich interspiritual dialogue that shaped their connection.
Our time together will include a period of contemplative prayer, guided by Thomas's own words. The morning will conclude with an open space for questions and discussion, inviting you to connect more deeply with the teachings and insights shared.
