September started out slow as it always takes me some time to get readjusted to my work schedule, but I'm finally getting into the swing of things! I've been focusing most of my energy on revisions for book two in my Shadows of the Vale series. I reread my previous draft making notes as I went and did some brainstorming before launching into revisions.
This has included frequently scouring book one for information, which has been... interesting. The downside of publishing a book is that you can no longer make changes; I've found a number of little things I would have tweaked if I'd known where the series was going, and have even found a fairly significant continuity error! It's pretty hard to spot, so I am curious to see if any of my readers will catch it!

To help me focus on my work, I've made a few trips downtown to use this nice little writing nook my sister found. Being away from home (and distractions) and fuelled with delicious pumpkin spice lattes has been a lovely change of pace, and I hope to continue using the space on some of my afternoons off—at least until the weather changes!

I plan to continue my revisions of book two into October. This will include adding, moving, and deleting scenes, fleshing out the world-building and character arcs, and making changes to better prepare the way for book three. Once I'm done with these changes, I'd like to give the book to a second round of beta readers while I start on another draft of book three.
I've recently been made aware of some book awards in my province, so I hope to also prepare a submission this month to enter When Shadows Fall into the eligible categories!
I am once again teaching a six-class drawing course to students at my school, with classes starting in October and running through November. Most of the groundwork is laid from the first time I ran the course, so I'm hoping it won't eat up quite as much time as it did last year!

On September 23rd, I was honoured to attend my first two official book signings. Although I was nervous, it turned out to be a wonderful experience, and I was happy to sell some books and visit with writers and readers alike. A big thank you to Evelyn, Terry, and everyone else involved in hosting these events for inviting me!

I did not finish any drawings for my Redbubble shop this month (again!) but I thought you might be interested in seeing one of my designs in the sketch phase. This one is almost ready for line-art and colour; it just needs some tweaking on the proportions and pose. I'll show you the completed version in the November newsletter!

Reading: I'm still working through the final book in James Islington's "The Licanius Trilogy", however, I've also started my first Andy Weir novel (audiobook) and I am enjoying it way more than I expected! It's funny and intriguing in equal measure with some surprisingly heart-felt moments, and I'm constantly curious to see how things will unfold.
